Redesigning 'The Dry' by Jane Harper as a crime literary classic book. This was a live brief with @studio_of_ideas and my course @designforpublishing at @norwichuniarts this spring.
Mystery and intrigue, wanting to pick up the book to read and find out what ' Luke lied, you lied, Come to the funeral' means, is the goal of my The Dry cover design. The note is used as a central plot device in the narrative and is an excellent device for visually hinting towards what the book is about without giving away anything. I use the newspaper clipping as the subhead in the same way. The hand-rendered typography together with the colours and textures used throughout, aims to give the reader a feel for the setting: a stiflingly dried-up desert with an uncomfortably tight interpersonal community.
