TED TALK CHAPBOOK- PROJECT RATIONALE
The consistent use of the laces throughout gives the publication a consistent brand identity flowing through the whole book. The combat boot with the specific style of laces shown on the front cover was a symbol of belonging in the Neo-Nazi movement during the author's time in it. The colour is also significant, as the red laces carried a meaning of 'being willing to shed blood for the movement' while white laces meant 'white supremacy.'  On the inside pages, the laces are used as a narrative device for showing how 'tangled up' and 'stuck' Picciolini was at that point in the story. I have crossed out all the negativity on the body copy to paradoxically bring attention to it and highlight the message the author wanted to give through his original TED talk on the subject.
